Martensitic Stainless Steel

Martensitic grades are those groups of stainless steel that are mainly used where hardness, strength, and wear resistance properties are required together with corrosion resistance. Martensitic stainless steels are essentially Fe-Cr-C alloys. They are ferromagnetic, hardenable by heat treating, and generally resistant to corrosion only in relatively mild environments.

Properties:
  • Good ductility and toughness properties, which decrease as strength increases.
  • specified when the application requires good tensile strength, creep, and fatigue strength properties, in combination with moderate corrosion resistance and heat resistance up to approximately 650° C
The following are the popular Martensitic grades that are stocked by us -
410, 414, 416, 420, 431, 440, 440C

The varying percentage of Chromium and Carbon with the addition of Phosphorous and sulphur the types depending upon the chemistry are used in a variety of applications.

Typical Applications:
  • Stressed parts needing strength and corrosion resistance
  • Machine Parts
  • Surgical Instruments
  • Valves
  • Pumps
  • Use in less corrosive areas like air, water, mild chemicals and food acids
Product Forms:
  • Sheets, Strips, Plates, Checkered Sheets
  • Round Bars, Hexagon, Flat Bars - rolled and processed, Beams, Angles, Channels, Squares
  • Pipes, Tubes, Square and rectangular hollow sections, Fittings and Flanges
  • Wires
  • Fasteners
