Ferritic Stainless Steel

Ferritic stainless steels generally have better engineering properties than austenitic grades, but have reduced corrosion resistance, because of the lower chromium and nickel content. Ferritic stainless steels are essentially iron-chromium alloys. The ferritic alloys are ferromagnetic. This group of stainless steel resist corrosion and oxidation.

Properties:
  • They can have good ductility and formability
  • Toughness may be somewhat limited at low temperatures and in heavy sections.
  • The ferritic stainless steels cannot be strengthened by heat treatment but can be cold worked and softened by annealing
The most popular ferritic grades that are stocked by us include the following -
405, 409, 409L, 410S, 430, 434, 436, 439, 441, 442, 444 and 446

With varying Chromium percentage and the addition of aluminum, molybdenum, columbium the various types depending on the chemistry are used for a wide range of applications.

Typical Applications:
  • Automotive applications - exhaust systems
  • Trims and Fasteners
  • Deep drawing parts
  • Furnace and heater parts
  • Resistance to nitric acid, sulfur gas, organic and food acids
Product Forms:
  • Sheets, Strips, Plates, Checkered Sheets
  • Round Bars, Hexagon, Flat Bars - rolled and processed, Beams, Angles, Channels, Squares
  • Pipes, Tubes, Square and rectangular hollow sections, Fittings and Flanges
  • Wires
  • Fasteners
