Ferritic Stainless Steel
Ferritic stainless steels generally have better engineering properties than austenitic grades, but have reduced corrosion resistance, because of the lower chromium and nickel content. Ferritic stainless steels are essentially iron-chromium alloys. The ferritic alloys are ferromagnetic. This group of stainless steel resist corrosion and oxidation.
Properties:
- They can have good ductility and formability
- Toughness may be somewhat limited at low temperatures and in heavy sections.
- The ferritic stainless steels cannot be strengthened by heat treatment but can be cold worked and softened by annealing
